Title: David Simon’s American City: The Corner, The Wire, Treme, Show Me a Hero, and The Deuce
09.08.2018 kl. 10.00 - 12.00
This dissertation examines the common thread that runs through the television series The Corner (2000), The Wire (2002-2008), Treme (2010-2013), Show Me a Hero (2015), and The Deuce (2017-) with a particular focus on their portrayals of urban realities in 20th and 21st century American society. While The Wire has been studied at length, this dissertation aims to offer a more comprehensive understanding of the serials on which David Simon has served as the showrunner and it does so with a key interest in how his television serials engage with their surrounding cultural landscape. Its ambition is thus twofold: to read these series together and understand how they engage with urban issues in contemporary American culture.
The pre-defence starts with a presentation by Mikkel Jensen followed by the discussant's comments and an open discussion. The pre-defence will be in English.
NB! Registration for the reception is closed.
